The Aquaciser is an underwater treadmill that can either
rehabilitate horses or help initially get a horse into shape.
There are several personnel at Santa Escolastica that have
experience with the operation of the Aquaciser. As such,
this machine can be used for specific and individual training
needs of Santa Escolástica's clients' horses. Dr. Rhonda
Rathgeber, Ph.D., DVM from Hagyard-Davidson-McGee
Associates closely assists those who engage their horses in
a training program using the Aquaciser at Santa Escolastica.

By using such a swimming style device, the primary goal is
to relieve stress on the skeleton. The Horse magazine stated,
"In an underwater treadmill, the buoyancy of the water 'reduces'
the horse's body weight so there is less strain on supporting
structures of the legs - bones, joints, tendons, and ligaments.
Many people incorporate the underwater treadmill into a
rehabilitation program for an injured horse. It will provide
conditioning of the cardiovascular and muscular systems while
unloading the limbs."

The magazine also adds, "Evidence indicates that horses which
would be unable to exercise are able to work in an underwater
treadmill without deterioration of the primary problem, this will
allow for a faster return to full fitness once normal conditioning is
resumed."

The Aquaciser is set up in a well ventilated barn. Its floor is a
consistent cushioned surface ideal for training. The water is kept
at a consistent warm temperature to allow for twelve month use.
Horses accept working on a treadmill easily and usually become
proficient and relaxed in just a few training sessions.

Professional personnel are on hand
to handle your horse in a peaceful environment

While in use, water fills the Aquaciser up
to the base of the horse's neck.
Each walk or swim is monitored by two people.

The jets provide massage to the horses' muscles
if requested or prescribed. The water tight door
seals the pool.

The flooring, made of cushioned rubber, appears
with in the Aquaciser as well as throughout
the barn for the horses' safety

A low stress environment maximizes the
benefits available to horses when using the
underwater treadmill.
